Conservation Landscaping

Conservation Landscaping

A method of landscaping that encourages coexistence between people and nature, paying careful attention to the natural environment- the climate, soil, wildlife, underlying geology, and surrounding vegetation.

Mason Conservation District encourages the use of native plants and strives to provide a variety of high quality, affordable bare-root and small potted plants.  These plants are all suitable for conservation purposes such as wildlife habitat, streambank stabilization, and stormwater management, as well as for landscaping around homes and farms. They are proven growers in our variable climatic conditions are beautiful and adapted to local growing conditions.

Benefits of Planting Native Trees and Shrubs

  • Use less water, reduce chemical fertilizer or pesticide applications (reduced maintenance)
  • Stabilize stream banks and soils by slowing high water flows and preventing erosion
  • Create pools, provide shade to keep water cool, and provide cover for fish
  • Provide food, cover, and nesting sites for wildlife
  • Protect water quality by filtering sediment and other contaminants
  • Enhance the beauty of your property with color and foliage
